Summer: +35°… how to beat the heat?
The work of a lash artist can be a little more complicated in the heat: here are some tips for working well even in summer.
It's always very difficult to work in the summer months due to the high temperatures. Consequently, people always complain that the glue becomes unmanageable , either too runny or too thick (depending on the humidity, which varies depending on the area in Italy where you live), or that the application doesn't last long. The ideal conditions for applying glue are: 55-65% humidity, and a temperature between 18-24°C.
How to monitor our work environment:
- Equip yourself with a humidity and temperature detector , because before acting they must be monitored for the treatment to be successful;
- Air conditioning: Air conditioners usually dry out the air in your home, but there are some that you can use a program to prevent it from drying out. One such model is the Ururu Sarara by Daikin.
- Portable air conditioners that will help you regulate humidity, functioning as both a humidifier and a dehumidifier. For example: Pinguino Portable Air Conditioners
- Homemade remedy: wipe the floor with a wet rag after each customer (for those with low humidity)
- You could also use a traditional fan , although it's not very effective, but it's definitely better than nothing. The important thing is to position it well away from the client's head and the glue.
Useful remedies for working with extension glue during the summer:
-
Refresh the jade stone. Place it in the refrigerator or in cold water before use. Caution: glue should never be stored in the refrigerator; it doesn't like sudden temperature changes! You might also find this article helpful. Change the stone every hour to keep it fresh, and replace the glue drop more often, even every 20-30 minutes if necessary.
-
Adjust the amount of glue based on its consistency. If the glue is very runny, use a slightly larger amount. Heat makes it even more liquid, and it may slide off the synthetic fur when you remove it. In this case, you can dip it in twice, without pausing between dips. If you use a thicker glue, use the usual amount, but be sure to spread it well and evenly, without separating the synthetic fur from the natural fur during this process.
-
Replace the bottle more frequently. With hot weather and intensive use (more than 10 openings per day), it's advisable to change the glue every 4-6 weeks, even if it's not finished. This ensures optimal performance in terms of the longevity of the eyelash extensions on the client.
-
Proper storage. Keep the glue in a cool (even overnight) and dry place, away from direct sunlight, such as a low cabinet or basement, if available. Store it in a protective bag with moisture-absorbing clay, such as Light Lashes® Protection Pack , to keep it stable for longer
-
Use the right primers. Alcohol-based primers such as Light Lashes® Fig Primer or Peach Primer or Pomegranate Primer help to Degrease and prepare particularly thick and oily natural lashes, promoting the adhesive's adhesion. Alcohol-free primers like Light Lashes® Fantasy Primer are more suitable for fine and fragile hairs. Properly chosen primers speed up or stabilize the glue's drying time. If you notice that the extension glue dries too slowly in the heat, go over your lashes (both natural and synthetic) with primer again... you'll see that the application will immediately become smoother and more pleasant!
Of course, it's also important to cultivate a culture of eyelash extensions, explaining to clients how to clean their lashes (cleaning should be done daily, especially to remove the oil produced by our sebaceous glands), treat them, dry them, and comb them.
It's also important to note that the glue's thermoregulation reaches temperatures of up to 24-26 degrees Celsius, after which the bond can't remain solid. Therefore, with 40°C heat, the sea, frequent showers, salt water, and wind, it's advisable to have your clients return for touch-ups a week or 10 days earlier than usual. But... who would give up perfect lashes at the beach? Not me!! Even if it means getting touch-ups a little more often!
