Tagliare le sopracciglia: non si fa!

Cutting eyebrows: don't do it!

Fellow eye professionals, how many times have you seen your client's eyebrows trimmed? I'm sure that if not many... quite a few!

I bet there are still tons of beauticians who use this methodology as a technique to fix the eyebrow arch.

Try doing a Google search and you will find that the Internet is full of articles on how to trim eyebrows , how to trim them to make them perfect and how to have them uniform with scissors… not to mention tutorials.

BUT ARE WE SURE THAT EYEBROWS SHOULD BE TRIMMED?

This is perhaps the best time to talk about it, right now that eyebrow lamination is so in demand. Many beauticians have remained tied to very retro methodologies and many clients who see very long, straight or unruly hairs on their eyebrows... what do they do? They spread all the hairs well upwards and off they go, ZAC ZAC with a nice pair of scissors.

Why do I keep saying and repeating over and over again that it shouldn't be done?

My belief is based on many years of personal experience and even today, every time I see a cut eyebrow, my heart sinks. 😔

NB: if this practice is performed by the beautician herself, there are no excuses. It is absolutely necessary to update and renew one's professional training !!

Let's get into the details, below you will find a list of what happens when the poor tips of the eyebrows are cut:

- the hair becomes even thicker and stiffer , like logs.

- they don't hold a shape and even combing them doesn't help anymore.

- the cut hairs grow in different directions and give the appearance of a messy eyebrow!

- the cut tips no longer follow the natural growth pattern and thus create empty spaces , the so-called “holes”, in the middle of the eyebrow arch.

- the eyebrow takes on the wrong shape over time!

- PLUGGED EYEBROWS ARE NOT AESTHETIC!

This is the result:

Isn't that enough yet?

Well, then I will also explain to you what can happen if you persist in cutting your eyebrows over time.

As you know, all our hair (eyelashes, eyebrows, head hair) has a well-defined life cycle, therefore: they are born, grow and fall out in a continuous cycle at different speeds depending on the area of the body.
By trimming your eyebrows , you compromise the natural life cycle of the hair .

The hair no longer reaches its maximum length and does not fall out when it should, but continues to be nourished by the hair follicle and therefore becomes increasingly thicker and heavier .

This puts the bulb under continuous stress until the bulb itself can no longer support the weight of the hair and is no longer able to produce new hair!

So what happens? Starting from a nice thick and natural eyebrow we end up with a partially bristly brow bone, alternating with empty and poorly defined areas!

All these characteristics are clearly visible to a professional who works every day performing professional eyebrow treatments.

Adolescents and aesthetics [Insight]

We know that adolescence is a period of transition in which the body begins to change, hair begins to grow and very often one experiments. Why is this age so underestimated and often neglected from an aesthetic point of view?

There are those who rely on a friend, those who choose to do it themselves and those who, instead, ask for external help - but it is very rare. This is where the first traumas arise!

The first waxing, the first redness… and in a moment you have already torn out some very important hairs from your face. How many of us would like to go back to recover that little ponytail, or the head of the eyebrow that was too short in the past?

Well, all this happens because we underestimate this very delicate and particular period. Giving the right importance to the aesthetics of adolescents is essential.

Neglecting this phase, in many cases, means creating real asymmetries (even very important ones) that often cannot be remedied in adulthood.

Tweezers are often the first enemies of eyebrows, but scissors should not be underestimated either.

So what do you recommend to a client who is used to trimming her eyebrows?

Here are the best tips for managing stiff, long and unruly eyebrows:

  1. Suggest or better yet force the client to never cut her eyebrows again , they need to grow them!
  2. We recommend using “ InLei® Fashion Lash & Brow ” eyelash and eyebrow fixative daily , which is perfectly suited to make the hairs more obedient and soft as well as fixing them in the desired position for the whole day.
  3. Remind her to pluck her eyebrows every now and then with tweezers. Even better if she turns to a professional who knows which hairs to remove, which to leave and above all knows how much to pluck! Remember that the hairs must be pulled out in the direction you want them to grow back.
  4. Offer to have the Brow Bomber treatment done by certified professionals. Brow Bomber is an exceptional treatment for the care of natural eyebrows, especially for those who need to define the shape or make the eyebrows obedient.

The InLei® Brow Bomber treatment : nourishes, shapes, colours and makes eyebrows soft, shiny and hydrated.

In short, it works wonders but even if you do the treatment on trimmed eyebrows you will get a “staggered” result because of the trimmed hairs. Do you notice it in the photo on the side?

The hairs have different growth times and since the thinnest tip of the hair is missing, the visual effect is that of an untidy and incomplete eyebrow. With a little practice combined with the right tricks, a professional can still camouflage them.

We teach it in our unique and inimitable professional course, Brow Bomber at our Light Lashes Academy locations.

Experiment carried out at the Light Lashes Academy

Look carefully at these photos.

Photo #1 These are eyebrows that have been trimmed for years. Some hairs are very thick, blunt and large for the nature of the eyebrow we are looking at.

Photo #2 The same person after 6 months "WITHOUT TOUCHING" the hair, neither with tweezers nor scissors.

It is very evident that even after all this period of abstinence, there are still some hairs with the tips cut (this confirms what was said before: they stay for a very long time)

Furthermore, we see that empty areas have formed, where the hair does not even grow anymore.

Photo #3 The eyebrow arch after one year. This is what your eyebrows (or those of your clients) can become if you don't trim them.... As you can see, the difference is there for all to see!
